Y1&Y2 Reading System:
Dear Parents,
In order to increase children’s interest in learning Mandarin and to develop their use and understanding of characters, we will begin to send home Mandarin reading books for Year One and Two children from next week the 28th of October. This year we have broadened the range of books by adding over 600 books across Year 1 and 2.
In every Year One and Two classroom there will be a box of Mandarin reading books which have already been labeled with different coloured stickers.
Children in CNL and MSL classes will have a little blue book which they need to record the name of the book they have borrowed. The Learning Assistant will help them in the beginning but we will encourage them to write the name of the book by themselves as soon as they can. Their Mandarin teacher will tell them which coloured book they can borrow. The teacher will also let them know how many books they should read over a week or two weeks.
Children in MFL classes can borrow the books voluntarily. They will also get clear information about which coloured book they should borrow from their Mandarin teacher.
The children need to choose the books from their own classroom with their Learning Assistants’ supervision in the morning from 8.00am to 8.15am.
We hope you will encourage your child to borrow Mandarin books and try to read with them. Please feel free to get in touch with your child’s Mandarin teacher if you have any questions.
Thank you for your support.
Best Regards,
Ms. Virginia Zhang
Primary Mandarin Coordinator
